Now, because we’re all forced to stay inside, Twitch is seeing another boom.

Twitch is like a “Letsplays” video but unfiltered, unedited, and, most importantly, uninterrupted–you know how important instant gratification is in the age of the internet. Since Twitch streams 24/7 footage of people playing video games live, its corresponding rise was almost inevitable. In the late 2010s, “Letsplays,” a Youtube genre where internet personalities play through video games, became popular. One of those forms is live streaming, most notably the Amazon-owned streaming service Twitch.įor those unfamiliar, Twitch is a streaming platform predominantly geared towards streaming video games and esports. Of course, since we are at home with nothing really to do, we’re busy seeking other forms of entertainment. In fact, being stuck at home all day, in general, is strange for many. For everything else, there’ll always be those chat commands.Working from home is a new paradigm that many of us have to adjust to. Twitch promises that this is just the beginning and that more widgets will be added in the future. AutoMod Queue shows them things they need to act on, for example, while Mod Actions show the history of actions performed by moderators in a channel. Twitch is practically overloading this View with anything and everything moderators need, at least just in one place. And if they become important, you can even drag them out of the dock and promote them to their own widget. You can click on one to preview what they have to offer. For less urgent or less frequently used mod powers, the Mod View offers a dock to place them all. Not all actions need to be there, of course. While those do add more things on your screen, you can move them around to your heart’s content and convenience. Tasks for keeping users well behaved, timing them out, or punishing them can now be found as their own customizable widget. Twitch’s new Mod View puts all those moderator tools in one place. True, it does get rid of some visual clutter but easy to reach controls don’t exactly qualify as “clutter” anyway.

It definitely doesn’t mean that they take joy in having to type out every command they need to access. Just because Twitch moderators are power users doesn’t mean they don’t want things to be easy and frictionless.
